Welcome to Gyalrong
Welcome to Gyalrong Khangtsen
For over 2500 years the Buddhist monastic tradition has been the spiritual heart of the teachings of Lord Buddha. At the height of Buddhism in Tibet over an eighth of the population of the Himalayan nation were monks or nuns. Today much of Tibetan Buddhism has moved elsewhere. Now the largest Buddhist monasteries in the world reside in the ancestral land of these very teachings, India.
Sera Mey Monastery and Gyalrong
Totaling over 3000 monks, Sera Mey in South India is one of the world centers of Buddhist studies. With such a large number of students, Sera Mey is divided into fifteen different colleges or khangstens. Gyalrong Khangsten is one of these pillars of Sera Mey. In it’s 400 year history Gyalrong Khangtsen has produced some of the most eminent teachers of the Tibetan Buddhist lineage.
At the very beginning I sing the praises of compassion, for love, and only love, was said to be like the seed for the excellent crops of the Buddhas.
